Floral
Arrangements
Getting Started
There are two main options for your
group to achieve your goal of raising
money with the Floral Arrangements
Fundraiser.
1.
Work with a local florist and
ask for a deep cut of the sale from the florist. Ask the florist to work on a cost basis and give any profit made to your group. This could be a substantial amount of income. Ask if your group members could assist in the arrangements and delivery to further reduce the costs and give more profit to you.
What are the benefits to the florist? Well, it drives increased traffic to their store and most probably will give them access to customers that they've never had before. If these new customers perceive the florist to be of good quality and of service to the community, then they will surely return for other business during the year.
2.
Make the floral arrangements yourself you will still have to deal with a local florist or wholesaler for your flowers. An option would be crafting silk flower arrangements. Silk flowers can be found at any crafts shop like Michael's or others.
Of course you will have to have a large work area and all of the tools and supplies for making the arrangements.
Set The Sale Date
After you've decided how you will be making
your floral arrangements, you should pick the
best occasion to sell your flowers. Most
people will choose Valentines Day, but
keep your pulse on your community and
it's current fundraisers to pick the most
unique and favorable date possible.
Plan to deliver the arrangements up to a week before the event. You can give your buyers the option of choosing their delivery date when they order. This will help you plan your delivery times and schedule the right amount of volunteers to deliver the flowers.
Make Your Brochure
Remember, your group members will be out selling these arrangements and will need pictures, descriptions and prices to show their prospective buyers.
Choose no more than 6 different arrangements. Start with a simple, low costing 2-3 flower arrangement for those with low budgets. Increase the cost as the size and complexity of the next 5 arrangements are thought out. This will provide options to a wide variety of customer economic groups.
Make your brochure colorful, with the costs clearly shown. Ask for addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses. Also, place some check boxes for allowing someone to give an extra donation of several amounts and if they would like to be on your mailing list. This will add people to your mailing list and donor roles that may be inclined to give at other times of the year.
Get Your Volunteers
Finally, line up your volunteers. Without a lot of volunteers and at least a couple of knowledgeable florists to supervise the floral arrangement fundraiser, it will not work. Plan for 40% more volunteers than needed, because there will always be situations that happen unexpectedly.
You'll need arrangers, "gofers" (go for thisgo for that), delivery persons, order and cash processors, letter writers for sending thank you letters afterwards, and a supervisor or two.
Once you have your team, then have a couple of meetings to explain your time schedule and organizational tasks. Then put it on the calendar and start selling. This fundraiser can be planned and implemented within two months time, so it can be a relatively quick method to raise some funds. The amount you raise depends on the number of sales persons you recruit.
