Fundraising Idea Spotlight - Hosting A "Coffee"
Fundraiser
There are some great hostesses and hosts out in the world
today. It may be that you or others in your group can
really put on a great party or get-together. Why not make
these events work to your advantage.
As you consider hosting your "coffee", you must think about
securing leadership, volunteers, and materials. Also, you
should conduct a training session for all of your volunteer
hosts or hostesses.
Plan to create and duplicate a slide-show or video
presentation
to enhance the job of your volunteers. Also, a flip chart
that
you've custom designed will make each presentation progress
smoother.
A number of coffees conducted during a specified time frame
can generate several thousands to tens of thousands of
dollars. It's fun too. Anybody that has been to a
successful coffee will also leave with a better
appreciation of that organization.

Fundraising Resources -- Your Friendly IRS Site For
Nonprofits
The IRS has made it easy for charitable, business league,
fraternal society, social club, veteran, social welfare and
other tax-exempt organizations to get the necessary forms
needed for proper accounting and reporting.
They even have special publications available for the 78 or
more disaster relief organizations. The IRS has really come
online with all of the tools that you may need.
I can't believe that I will admit this, but "thank you IRS for
making it easier" for nonprofits to comply. Keep in mind
that I've been there in the past where you just can't find
anybody from the IRS to help you find the right forms. I've
spent many precious hours looking for simple information too.
Do you need software that will manage your fundraising efforts
at your organization? Do you want a low costing yet powerful
software package that is expandable as your organization
grows?
I've contacted the folks from Araize, Inc. that produces
FastFund Nonprofit Software Solutions and have found a great
product for small to medium sized nonprofit organizations.
For
a single user the cost is less than $300. Wow! Most other
fundraising software packages are three to ten times more.
There is also a FastFund Accounting software add-on that will
integrate with the fundraising software and will handle all of
your associated accounting needs. Most other fundraising
programs do not have a compatable accounting program that
will integrate well with them.
Book Review -- Not-for-Profit Accounting Made
Easy
If you are like me and most nonprofit staff (whether you're
paid or not), you are definitely not the accountant type.
Sure we can muddle our way through our ledgers, but there's
always some area perhaps that could have been handled and
reported better.
Here's a book that will help you make sure that you are on
track and that your nonprofit groups books are in order.
By the way, if you are excellent with accounting, this book
can help others in your group understand you better. :-)
You'll get practical, plain-language explanations of
financial accounting and reporting standards and practices.
The book is for those with basic fundamentals, but may lack
a more complete understanding of accounting principles and
financial reporting.
