Acquiring New Donors
Booth At County Fair
Place a booth at your county fair that explains what your organization is all about. Offer a door prize or series of door prizes if someone signs up at your booth. Indicate that their name will be placed on the mailing list. Allow them to receive their prize without being present to win. Be sure to get full name, address, phone number, e-mail address, and title.
Send Survey Out To Members
Send a survey form to current members asking for suggestions on improving your organization. Include several spots on the form for referrals of 2 4 friends. Be sure to update all information such as current address, phone, employer (note: this is for Matching Corporate Gifts), e-mail address and interests.
E-Mail Campaign
E-mail all of your donors with a special promotion, request for donation, or request for participation in your next event. Ask them to e-mail this announcement to several of their friends. Include a place on the e-mail for newcomers to opt-in to future e-mail announcements. This technique has the potential to double or quadruple newly acquired donor names.
Company Newsletters
Ask your current donors that own businesses or are employed at large corporations to include a small ad about your group in their next company newsletter. Include your email address, web address and phone number. If you have a free service or items that you commonly offer new supporters, then provide a "coupon" type ad be printed in the newsletter as an alternative.
